KUALA LUMPUR: Residents of Changkat Kiara Rimbun in Jalan Dutamas 5 are urging City Hall to keep an eye on the empty land it owns next to their residential area.
Residents warn that the parcel of land in Persiaran Dutamas owned by City Hall is being turned into an illegal dumping area for asphalt road waste.
One of the residents, Datuk T. Selventhiranathan, said the land was first empty and used to be a playground for children who live nearby.
"The children used to cycle and use their roller blades here in the evening. But now, they can't do so, as it is filled with sand and road waste," he said.
He added that the empty lot was turned into an illegal dumping area about a year ago.
"The road waste was dumped here in the middle of the night by unidentified lorries.
"I did ask the drivers about it once, but they said it was just temporary. However, it seems the other way around now," said Selventhiranathan.
He added that the developer of the residential area, Plenitude Builders Sdn Bhd, then has to erect a gate to prevent more road waste from being dumped on the land.
He said that a few complaints have been sent to City Hall by the residents, but to no avail.
"City Hall visited the area a few times, but nothing has been done to the land. So we are hoping that City Hall can remove all the road waste as soon as possible," he added.
Another resident, Ananthan Ragawan, said that residents are also hoping City Hall will fully utilise the empty land.
"Maybe, they can turn the land into a green park, which is in line with the Greener Kuala Lumpur project.
"We are more than happy to help in maintaining the park, rather than letting it be turned into an illegal dumping site," he said.
He noted that with the existence of the park, it will not only benefit Changkat Kiara Rimbun residents, but also the nearby residential area nestled in Dutamas, which includes Changkat Kiara Bayu, Kensington Park and government quarters.
Meanwhile, for another resident, Estilie Nawawie, the road waste, besides being an eyesore, also endangers motorists.
"There are a few cases where motorcyclists skidded due to sand from the illegal dump that was washed onto the road during heavy rain," he said.
