BUKIT MERTAJAM: Villagers in Bukit Tengah lie awake at night worrying that their homes could be hit by blasting works next door.
A developer of a housing project had began blasting works to clear a hill about 200 metres away from their homes.
A house was hit by stones that damaged its roof last week. House owner Nasriah Abu Bakar, 54, said she felt the tremor from the explosion before hearing the sound of an object hitting the roof.
Nasriah said she found a hole the size a fist on the zinc roof.
She said the developer replaced the damaged roof after her son, Mohd Zulkifli Amin Abdul Rahman, 20, complained to the workers at the construction site.
He said several workers came to the house and confirmed that the stones were debris from blasting works at the site.
"They immediately replaced the damaged roof," he said, adding that he has lodged a report at the Bukit Tengah police station over the incident.
Zulkifli said although the damage was not serious, he and his neighbours were still worried about their safety.
He said tremors could be felt in the villagers' homes since blasting works began two months ago.
"The blasting starts at noon daily. I hope the
relevant authorities will take the necessary action to protect our safety." --
