SINGAPORE, Oct 24 (Bernama) -- Tourism, education and solid waste management will be top on the list of discussions during Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's official visit to Singapore, beginning Monday, said Malaysian High Commissioner to the republic Datuk Md Hussin Nayan.

Speaking to Malaysian reporters at the Malaysian High Commission here Monday, the envoy said, looking at the programme where the deputy prime minister would be briefed by the Singapore Tourism Board on their activities, the subject of tourism would be high on the list.

"The visit to the incinerator plant in Tuas, I am sure, that will also be given prominence, in terms of the subject to be discussed.

"And of course, as the minister of education in Malaysia, the deputy prime minister will be discussiong with his singapore counterpart here, Heng Swee Keat, on education issues.

"I do not know at what level, but I assume at all levels, considering that Singapore has done quite well in terms of education, there might be a few things that we could possibly adapt to our own needs in Malaysia, in terms of policies and programmes," he said. Md Hussin described the visit as important and significant.

When he was Johor menteri besar, Muhyiddin has been visiting Singapore and was quite familiar with the republic.

"This time, however, is significant in the sense that he is coming back in a different capacity, as the deputy prime minister of Malaysia, to renew his friendship with the leadership.

"Malaysian leaders, just like other Asean leaders, they will be visiting their counterparts from member countries of Asean," said Md Hussin.

He said Muhyiddin had been here, a week after he was first appointed deputy prime minister, on a different capacity.

"This would be the first time, he would be meeting Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, he is re-establishing and renewing linkages."
